If you want to experience Tenerife’s honest local cuisine, drive up to Ifonche above Adeje. El Dornajo is run by the third generation and is a favourite stop for hikers and families.

What you get

The house speciality is conejo encebollado - rabbit with onions, a Canarian classic. There are also typical starters such as escaldón, grilled cheese, croquetas and pimientos de Padrón. From the grill come ribs, chicken, goat and steaks. Homemade desserts such as mousse de gofio and quesillo round off the meal, accompanied by local house wine.
